New words...?

It's hard to tell, because his pronunciation is pretty vague, but I think Matt Matt was trying to say "bye bye" "night night" and "red". Which is good news.

Random stuff of late

Matthew is very very keen on Richard Scarry these days. At naptime and bedtime, we HAVE to read a Busytown book, and then It's Bedtime, Wibbly Pig. Doggies and Blue Hat, Green Hat are also popular with two year olds at our house.

We've started watching Sesame Street in small doses (against Mommy's better judgment).

Matt Matt is now calling himself Matt Mo and Matt Me. He's also finally calling James Daddy (as opposed to Dada) and switches between calling me Mommy and Mummy (too cute!) Annmarie is Ree Ree.

When I was in the UK a few weeks ago, James and Matt Matt went to Build A Bear and built Kit Kit and brought him home. So now Matthew has three stuffed kitties and they all sleep in the crib with him.

He likes to pull blankets off of the pile on his canvas toy bin into his crib at night, so when we come in in the morning, he's made a little boy-nest for himself.

Loves to brush his teeth. Would brush 10 times a day if we let him.

Congratulations, Daddy

Matthew wants to say congratulations to his daddy for finishing his executive MBA at SMU. Well done, Daddy! We are proud of you.

Memo to myself: hide the Fiber One bars

All I can say is be very careful if you feed Fiber One bars to your toddler!

I had a flashback tonight to the early days - you know, the ones where you scoop the baby out of the bassinet and find your hand covered in poop. Yeah, picture that, only with a toddler and while playing with his cars on your off-white living room rug. UGH! Thankfully, none of it actually ended up on the rug.

We are busy playing with his cars when I notice he smells pretty bad, so I say, "C'mon, Matt Matt, let's go get a new diaper for you" and he's shaking his head no (as is normal) so I grab him around the waist to lift him up and notice there is SOMETHING on the back of his shirt. And now it's on my hand! I turn him around and it's coming out the top of his JEANS, in a huge brown ball. I am laughing and crying and holding him at arms' length trying not to think about the smell and the fact that we are both now COVERED in poop. AIGH. It is EVERYWHERE when I take his clothes off. I didn't realize so much poop could come out of a toddler all at once.

And of course, James is STILL out of town, so I have to toss Matt Matt in the bath and all his clothes and my top into the laundry by myself, trying not to make matters any worse, then do a reconnaissance mission around the house to make sure it didn't get on anything else.

So yeah, think twice about handing out the Fiber One bars!

Damn - I deserve tonight's glass of wine for sure.

Official Mother's Day Portrait

Matthew, with stuff on his head

Happy Mother's Day

Matthew wishes (in his best Dean Martin voice) a happy Mother's Day to one and all.

After breakfast at IHOP, where Matt Matt refused to eat anything but bacon (clearly his mother's son) we went food shopping and then James headed to the airport for YET ANOTHER trip to England. Planning on a trip to Town Lake after naptime to run around and enjoy the weather while it's still bearable out. Yesterday it got to 97 degrees in our backyard, but today it is 79.

Yeah Yo

Matthew has a new word - yellow. Only he says it Yeah Yo, which makes me laugh every time. I look for yellow things to point out to him. But apparently the whole world is yellow, because if you ask him what color anything is, it's yeah yo. :-)

Matt Matt also got his first haircut with an electric razor on Sunday - Lupe did a great job and Matt Matt was very brave and even laughed a few times. Still iffy on the hair dryer, though.

Wish us luck tomorrow. Speech evaluation time. I wonder if yeah yo will count as one or two words.
